Honing My Design Skills

IMG_1669.JPG

I've known I was artistic since my mom made a magnet of my favorite drawing of cats I made in the second grade. My whole life, I was trying to figure out what to do with this skill, this gift. And let me tell you I went through a lot of options, high school came, and I thought, art teacher? Then, I talked myself out of it, next it was a graphic designer, I did not know how to the Adobe Suite yet and did not have a portfolio, so that was nicked. Next up was Interior Design, I ran with that idea for a while because I love to decorate and not to toot my own horn but I have amazing spatial awareness. Now, interior design holds a special place in my heart, and so do all the other careers I contemplated but advertising won my heart. Advertising is where my design and writing can combine to create one beautiful campaign.

I am happy that the work I do in school and at my job for allows me artist freedom. I get a great deal of satisfaction with every piece I design. They are works of art that can be printed and placed all over campus. Thousands of students look at my work every day. My work could be a reason why someone decides to join a group, that's amazing! With every piece, I create I become more skilled and knowledgeable with the software I use. Designing is an expressive outlet that I treasure.
